Description
Datasets of transmission throughput in Wi-Fi networks collected from simulations and home Wi-Fi networks.

1) Synthetic Dataset using Network Simulation:
==============================================

Traceset of transmission throughput information collected from Wi-Fi network simulation performed in Mininet-Wifi SDN emulator using tcpdump. Two different traces are extracted from <.pcap> files using Model-I and Model-II.

In Model-I, we extracted per-station network statistics including RSSI, data-rate, inter-arrival time, packet arrival rate. The dataset consists of 42 features and single target variables (i.e. avg network throughput).

In Model-II, we extracted network-wide statistics including number of transmitting stations, number of receiving stations, RSSI (min, max, mean and standard deviation), data rate (min, max, mode, mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis), inter-arrival time (min, max, mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis), packet arrival rate (actual). The trace contains total 22 features and single target variables (i.e. avg network throughput).


2) Real Datasets via Network Sniffing:
======================================

We used network sniffing to capture all traffic transmitter over home Wi-Fi network which consists of an Acess point and six (6) Wi-Fi stations. Tcpdump tool is used to capture and save all captured traffic in <.pcap> files. Two models are then used to extract features from the <.pcap> files.

In Model-I, we extracted per-station network statistics including RSSI, MCS Index, data-rate, inter-arrival time, packet arrival rate and the number of retransmissions. The trace consists of 38 features and single target variables (i.e. avg network throughput).

In Model-II, we extracted network-wide statistics including number of transmitting stations, number of receiving stations, RSSI (min, max, mean, standard deviation skewness and kurtosis), MCS Index (min, max, mean mode, standard deviation skewness and kurtosis), data rate (min, max, mode, mean, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis), inter-arrival time (min, max, mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis), packet arrival rate (actual value), the number of retransmissions and retransmissions ratio. The dataset contains total 34 features and single target variables (i.e. avg network throughput).
Creation process
1) Synthetic Datasets Creation Method:

Network simulation is performed in Mininet-Wifi SDN emulator. A monitor interface is configured on the access point (AP) node to capture all traffic that is sent or received through the AP. All data packets are captured using tcpdump tool in <.pcap> format. Tracesets are then extracted from raw <.pcap> files using python scripts and saved as <.csv> files.


2) Real Datasets Creation Method:
================================

A Toshiba laptop (core-i5) with Atheros wireless adaptor, running Ubuntu operating system is used to monitor all traffic inside the home network. The Wi-Fi adaptor is set in monitor mode, and to capture all frames using tcpdump tool.
